Ever wanted to pull a Johnny Depp and buy your own island? Why travel to Key West when you could bask in the sun on your very own beach?

Maybe you haven't sprung for this particular piece of land because you thought it would be way out of your price range. Think again! Islands are actually affordable....or at least not as unaffordable as you might think.

If you call up an island broker (like Vladi Private Islands who have sold over 2,000 islands around the world), they can help you secure your own private oasis. Prices start around $500,000 for a 2-acre island. Most, however, are priced between $1 and $2 million.

Beware when making the decision though. Many islands are nearly uninhabitable for humans and may end up being more of a money pit than a peaceful escape. Plus, if you buy one too close to the coast line, you run the risk that it will be swallowed by rising sea levels.
